Precocious Paper - Birthday Blog Hop!

It must nearly be my birthday! I love my friend Tessa's birthday as it's a reminder that mine is almost here ;)

Are you ready for a little blog celebration? Tessa is celebrating her 30th birthday with a blog hop sponsored by her Etsy shop, Precocious Paper. Tessa is giving away over $100.00 in product and 20 designers are sharing fabulous projects in her honour. You don’t want to miss this! You can join us by starting at Tessa’s blog here. If you’ve been hopping along and just came from Tessa’s blog, you are in the right place.

Tessa sent me some of these beautiful 'Autumn Afternoon' sweet spots to create with for the blog hop, and here's a layout I made with them. If you fancy picking some of these up for yourself, check out the coupon code at the end of this post!

Would you like some Precocious Paper goodies to work with? If you complete the entire hop, leaving a comment on every designer’s post, you will be entered to win the grand prize – the September, October, November and December Samplers! That’s a $54.00 value and dozens upon dozens of hand-crafted scrapbooking embellishments. Follow Tessa’s blog to be entered to win a $20.00 credit to the shop, and if you follow Precocious Paper on Facebook, you could win another $20.00 credit. Tessa is also giving away surprise credits to blog hop participants, so be sure to leave a comment on this post!

Free class this weekend!

The kids are heading back to school and you should too!
The headmistress at Miss Art's knows that new backpacks, school supplies and first day apparel can reduce a crafters budget to milk money, so for this weekend only she is offering you a tuition free class.

Beginning on Friday, August 26th, you will have 3 days to check out one of our most popular classes for free, no subscription needed. In "The Secret Garden," the talented Stacy Cohen teaches you how to create a shadowbox efffect on your layouts by adding dimension through layering and creating beautiful floral clusters. Stacey even earns a little Extra Credit by providing you a step-by-step demonstration on how she creates her trademark crocheted page accents.

We hope to see you in the class room and if you enjoy our class that you'll be kind enough to leave an apple or a comment for the teacher.

Simple Scrapper

Have you visited the Simple Scrapper website? As a slightly obsessive organiser, I love the Simple Scrapper site. I've taken some of the classes over there and Jennifer has a great way of providing just the right amount of information without overwhelming you!

I'm excited to share a guest post I wrote for them which is now live - Scrapping with kits: get organized without spending a penny. I'm sharing the process I use to ensure that my scrapbooking time is productive and enjoyable. Here's one of the layouts I created as part of my work:

Come and check it out and let me know what you think! And if you leave a comment you could win a camera bag from Jo Totes :)

Happy Tuesday!

New Class

I'm so thrilled to share with you my latest class for Miss Art's Papercrafting School! If you have ever been bamboozled by all the misting products out there, then this is the class for you! Below are some details and a little video to give you an idea of what is involved.

When trends hit papercrafting, they can be overwhelming. What starts as one product and one manufacturer becomes a cloning experiment with similar products popping up like Dolly sheep on the pastures of Scotland. Knowledge is power, the power to stretch your budget, the power to create the effects that you really want in your artwork and the power to know how things work. The Miss Art’s Guide series was designed to empower you to make the best possible product selections and to teach you the basics of how these products work. The Miss Art’s Guide to Mists will demystify this amazing medium. Our maven of misting, Amanda Jones, will compare 9 leading mists brands and products. In 5 videos she will show the pros and cons of each mist, demonstrate their differences and compare spray patterns, shimmer and color saturation on paper, acrylic, chipboard, and canvas. The following brands are included in this review:

Mister Huey- Studio Calico
Glimmer Mist- Tattered Angels
Chalkboard Mist- Tattered Angels
Coloringz- Shimmerz
Maya Mist- Maya Road
Smooch Spritz- Clearsnap
Perfect Pearls mist- Ranger
Glitter Mist- Art-C
Radiant Rain Mists- Luminarte
Cosmic Shimmer Mist- Creative Expressions
Cosmic Shimmer Chalk Mist- Creative Expressions
Adirondack Color Wash – Ranger
Mica Mist- That Special Touch

The Miss Art’s Guide to Mists is available on 8/20/11 and is a great prep class for Sara Webb’s Demystifying Mists class coming on 9/1/11.

The Studio

This past Sunday we announced our team for the next six months over at The Studo Challenges! I'm excited to be returning to our previous format of twice-monthly challenges with a monthly sponsor. In order to kick off the next six months I've posted a mini-challenge, with a prize!

The new and returning team members each shared a favourite layout. Here's the fun, summery layout I shared:

To enter to win a gift voucher to Scrap Rat you just need to lift one of the layouts featured in Sunday's post (international entries are welcome)! Can't wait to see your creations!

Some things just have to be said

Dear whomever,

Please accept this email as MY invoice to YOU for the £24 outstanding balance on my car insurance policy, vehicle registration KV53 ZXJ.

This policy was cancelled on July 31st 2010. It was declared off road at that time, because this is when the tax ran out. As requested by your unhelpful customer help team I sent the ORIGINAL SORN notification to you. Apparently you have not received it, and therefore will not accept that I do not owe you £36 for insurance I never wanted and had indeed cancelled. I have wasted enough time and effort sorting out YOUR mistakes. If you want the document which YOU lost YOU will need to contact DVLA to get it.

My annual car insurance cost was £180. Which divided by 12 gives a monthly cost of £15. Mulitply that by the number of months I actually had the policy (eight) gives you a total of £120. If you then take the amount of money I paid you up until July, (8 x £18) the total is £144. I'm sure you will agree that this leaves an outstanding balance of £24 payable to ME. I do not owe you £36.

If this invoice is not paid within 7 days I will be seeking my financial compensation through the courts. Believe me, I am stubborn enough to do that for the sake of £24 as a matter of principle. Ask my husband.

One thing I can guarantee is that you will NOT be receiving £36 from me. I DO NOT OWE IT. The series of mistakes made were the fault of Swiftcover and not me. If I get one more call, text, or letter from REGAL debt collection agency I will also be adding a harassment suit to my claim.

I am doing this by email as it seems your call centre only records the calls you decide suit your needs.

Amanda Jones

***Edited to add - It totally worked and I have had my money back within 4 hours. If only I'd sent this 12 monhs ago!***
